After the movie’s release, it quickly became one of the most loved Christmas films and won three Academy Awards, including Best Actor in a Supporting Role (for Gwenn). All the individuals are interlinked to one another and the story begins five weeks before Christmas in London. And we are certain that you will be shedding a tear at least by the end of these films. ‘Tis the season to be jolly but of course, while Mariah Carey croons “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, some might tend to slightly disagree.

One thing that is a pre-requisite is that it doesn’t fall into the classic ‘formula’ of a Christmas movie – you won’t find sentimentality in these films. Alternative Christmas movies, or Christmas-adjacent movies as they’re sometimes called, are regular films that have the holiday incorporated into them somehow. From the psychosexual shenanigans of “Batman Returns” to the darkly comedic fun on “In Bruges,” there’s a healthy mix of cinema here, and all are worth your time.

Die Hard is a Christmas movie. It's not even much of a debate anymore. The question is: What other holiday action movies sit alongside it?

Though a recent movie that's less than perfect, Violent Night is still one of the better Christmas action movies ever released. His 2005 directorial debut takes place in Los Angeles during the holiday season as an aspiring actor and a private investigator become embroiled in a murder investigation. Though not the lightning-in-a-bottle experience of the original, this follow up is still top-notch Christmas action fare. And instead of Tiny Tim getting too sick to walk, Danny Glover is getting too old for, quote, "this shit." A general feeling of good tidings and joy?
