Stephan Bonnar, whose 2005 fight with Forrest Griffin helped launch the UFC into the mainstream, died at age 45, the UFC announced.

Griffin would also go on to win the UFC light heavyweight belt. Griffin won the fight via unanimous decision to earn a six-figure UFC contract. Bonnar and Griffin were both inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2013.
