Public transport is full of hassles in Kathmandu (The Kathmandu Post)

Commuters complain of a range of abuses—from harassment to violence at the hands of conductors.

“We are aware of the issue in Kathmandu, although it's the traffic police that need to address such problems. “We are trying our best to build up a system, but unless all the stakeholders work together, this problem can’t be solved,” said Chaudhary. However, half a decade later, the service has become more chaotic in Kathmandu. Not only during Maharjan’s stint, in the 2017 elections too, former mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya had vowed to bring about reforms in public transportation. Kathmandu View Tower already has underground parking facility ... (Online Khabar (English))

Despite the work on the underground parking has been completed, the city government has not been keen on operating Kathmandu View Tower.

According to him, it has been established by the court that public land should not be destroyed. “The metropolis is the protector of Khulamanch, not its owners,” says Adhikari. They say public property should be used for the purpose for which it is offered or preserved. But, in reality, the local government is trying to destroy it. But, the city has not even tried to use it before quickly announcing that it wants to solve the parking issue for the next 20 years by building a new parking lot underneath Khulamanch. The situation, when it comes to open public land, is dire. According to the national urban development strategy of the government, such an open area in Kathmandu is only 0.4 per cent. Environmentalists and urban planners consider Tundikhel (and Khulamanch) as the lungs of Kathmandu due to its vastness. It has been nearly eight years since the construction, yet the metropolis has not shown any interest to operate the bus terminal. But, a building to its southeast already has underground parking – the [Kathmandu View Tower](https://english.onlinekhabar.com/kathmandu-view-tower-how-a-company-milked-nepals-tallest-building-project-for-three-years.html). So, what happens to the three-storey underground parking/bus terminal built underneath the Kathmandu View Tower? The tower project started nearly a decade ago with the same idea, solving the parking issue and having a managed bus terminal for public vehicles.
