The new format will see both men’s and women’s draws play seven tournaments, with every event hosting both draws. I guess the message is Hamilton ... Until 2020, the New Zealand stop featured only a men’s tournament, although a four-team women’s showcase was played during the 2019 tournament. “We thank NZ Rugby for their positive involvement in targeted dialogue regarding the new series model.

Volunteer Glynis King will say goodbye to her beloved fans this weekend but organisers are promising a top send-off for the Hamilton Sevens.

“It’s just an awesome event you get to meet so many people, you have lots of fun watching and visiting around the venue. Because you add to it the heart of world sevens - New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, and Fiji, just amazing.” “We are replicating, adding a few things and then on Sunday afternoon rugby takes centre stage. There is a sadness there, but I’ve got a plan emerging, and I’m quite focused on that “The decision has been made, so we can’t actually do anything about that, so we move on and make the most of our last event in Hamilton.” You add our event capabilities, the facilities including the fale, it would be a magnificent event. “There has been a lot more of the staycation scenario and I think Hamilton is gaining traction in the destination place in itself for people looking to do something different than going to the beach.” “Then you add the vibrancy and singing of the fans, and it magically comes together.” It is a showcase for Hamilton and the mighty Waikato. We have many good memories here and we’re looking forward to the weekend,” said Sam Dickson, New Zealand men’s captain. “Expect another New Zealand and Australia Cup Final, with both eager to impress at home this weekend and next week in Sydney.” While there have only been two legs so far of the new women’s World Rugby Sevens Series season, there is already a title race in full flow. “Look out for the Ireland vs Uruguay pool fixture, which was won by the South Americans in Cape Town. Teams like Argentina and South Africa will likely crossover with Samoa and Fiji in the quarterfinals, and I would not be surprised if the South Pacific Island nations battle it out in the Cup Final. It was confirmed at the start of the new World Series season that from the new season there would be significant changes. “They’re one of my favourite teams as they play the game with so much passion, are so physical on defence and have game breakers in every position.

The Fijian men’s side were too good for France in their first match of the tournament, claiming a 26-10 win. The scoring continued to be shared around when Brady Rush scored, before McGarvey-Black claimed his second try of the match on the full time siren. Moses Leo was the first on the scoreboard, dotting down after a long run on the left wing. Tries to Regan Ware and Joe Webber extended the lead to 19-0 at the break, but Leo’s match was brought to an early end on the stroke of half time as he took a knock to the head while playing the ball and took two attempts to stay upright as he tried to get back to his feet. All Blacks Sevens make perfect start at final Hamilton event (1 News)

The men in black took down Tonga in convincing fashion as they opened pool play for the final World Sevens Series event to be held in New Zealand.

The All Blacks Sevens return to action this afternoon for their second pool game against Australia shortly after 2pm before playing their final round robin match at 7:30 tonight against Great Britain. Tonga looked to strike back immediately but lost the ball near the Kiwi line, allowing for a slow build-up to their second try as Regan Ware stepped inside two defenders on halfway to nab his own runaway try in the fourth minute. The All Blacks Sevens took down Tonga 45-0 first up before the Black Ferns Sevens took the field shortly after for a 58-0 thumping of Papua New Guinea.

All Blacks Sevens hold on in Hamilton thriller against Aussies (1 News)

The New Zealand men's team remains unbeaten in pool play after taking down the reigning World Series champions 21-19 in a nail-biter.

A Fiji knock on shortly after the restart gave the Black Ferns a prime attacking platform to work from and they didn't disappoint, putting Michaeala Blyde in space on the left wing off a worked move from the scrum to score their second and earn a 12-0 lead at the break. It meant despite their control of the ball for a majority of the half, the All Blacks Sevens headed to halftime down 7-12. After opening their tournament in Hamilton this morning with a dominant 45-0 win over Tonga, the All Blacks Sevens had to work much harder to beat the reigning series champions but held off a last-gasp effort from Australia to win 21-19.
