The ball was moved to the right, where the Kiwi defence was weaker and Shilton van Wyk ran in to score. * South Africa’s Jaiden Baron was sent to the bin early in the second half and within a minute New Zealand made their numerical advantage count as Roderick Solo took a high kick from Weber and had only the try line in front of him. With both tries converted, the score was 7-7 at the break. After a tight start, where South Africa had plenty of the ball but couldn’t find a way through the New Zealand defence, it was the All Blacks Sevens that struck first with Joe Weber crossing the line in the fifth minute.

France have spoiled Australia's rugby sevens party in Sydney by dumping the host nation out of the men's and women's quarter-finals on Saturday.

“They defended really well, I thought they deserved to win the game. “We’ve got to try and not let it deflate us completely.” “Losing is not the greatest feeling, particularly at home,” Walsh said. It’s the worst-case scenario for Rugby Australia in terms of late ticket sales on Sunday. A penalty at most,” Dalton tweeted. “How is that a yellow card?

More glory for Black Ferns, redemption for All Blacks in Sydney sevens (1 News)

New Zealand teams completely shut out their cup final opponents to extend their leads in the world series.

A tighthead for New Zealand set the tone for the second half and while Akuila Rokolisoa dropped a pass with the line open in front of him, he redeemed himself from the resulting scrum by stealing ahead of South African halfback and kicking the ball through for a try. Then it was Joe Webber’s turn – over from an attacking scrum with 90 seconds to go in first half, with Sam Dickson over in the corner more than a minute after the halftime siren for a 17-0 halftime lead. The men’s match was perhaps even more one-sided, the All Blacks sevens using their size and aggression to completely dominate South Africa in the set piece and at the breakdown.

New Zealand women continue hot form to lift the silverware at ... (Stuff.co.nz)

France were no match for the relentless Black Ferns outfit in the first of the finals at Allianz Stadium on Sunday night.

On Saturday night the Black Ferns defeated Japan 33-0 in their quarterfinal. Earlier both New Zealand teams booked their places in the finals with convincing semifinal displays. The Kiwi men were equally as dominant as they ran in six tries to leave an outmatched Blitzboks outfit in their dust. From there the women in black closed it out comfortably. And the French had few answers to the might of the men in the black in the second spell. The New Zealand women continued their red-hot form with a suffocating five-try effort against the French to grab a third title for the season and second on the trot after their home triumph in Hamilton last weekend.

World Rugby CEO lauds Sydney Sevens (Rugby.com.au)

World Rugby CEO Alan Gilpin has praised the Sydney Sevens and says Australia will find out before May if it is on the schedule for the 2023-24 series.

Gilpin and other World Rugby officials have also been engaged with RA this week in early planning for the 2027 mens World Cup in Australia.
