Auckland Transport (AT) now says it will waive all infringement notices issued to cars following Friday's unprecedented flooding.
In the statement this afternoon, Strawbridge said: “Due to the unprecedented events of the past few days, Auckland Transport has authorised the waiver of all infringement notices issued between 2pm Friday 27 January and 9am this morning.” AT had earlier said it had issued 259 infringements across Auckland over the last weekend. Rudolph-Karena’s $200 fine was due to her car’s warrant of fitness (WOF) being out of date by a few weeks. Rudolph-Karena had been “pretty worried” about how she was going to pay the fine. While she would have accepted the fine any other day, she believed it was “heartless” for Auckland Transport to ticket cars in a flood-stricken area. A few hours later, group manager of parking services and compliance John Strawbridge said all fines issued between 2pm on Friday and 9am on Wednesday would be waived due to “the unprecedented events of the past few days”. Other properties on the street were “flooded, flooded” and residents had no choice but to park on the street, which has no parking restrictions. Auckland's transport network is operational, with some remaining road closures and reduced service frequency on public transport services.
Devonport services will be running hourly because of debris in the water and damage to vessels. Trains will be limited to travelling at KiwiRail speed restrictions of 25km/h during the morning peak, with a 40km/h speed restriction in place across the network for the rest of Wednesday. For the latest list of road closures please see the AT website. - Customers will need to change trains to travel between New Lynn and Swanson. - Due to speed restrictions on the line, journey times will significantly increase. Ferry services on Wednesday will be running to reduced timetables and with longer journey times. Most bus services are operating including rail bus replacements but due to the severe weather conditions further last-minute cancellations may occur. Speed restrictions will be in place across the Auckland rail network tomorrow as a precaution because of existing slips and tonight’s forecast heavy rain. - From Tuesday 31 January, Eastern Line services will run between Manukau and Otahuhu only. Do not walk, drive or cycle through floodwater because it can pose a series risk to your health and safety. Consider staying home or travelling later in the day once the heaviest periods of rain have passed. This is a phenomenal effort and I want to thank these workers for their hard work since Friday in exceptionally challenging circumstances.
