Auckland City's hopes of a deep run at this year's FIFA Club World Cup have ended in a 3-0 loss to Egyptian side Al Ahly this morning in Morocco.

Ahly manager Marcel Koller was pleased with his side's second-half display as they beat Auckland City 3-0 to qualify to Club World Cup quarter finals.

"From the start in the second half, we did better pressing and really we deserved the win. Ahly will face Seattle Sounders of US in the quarter finals on Saturday 4 February and the winner will advance to face Real Madrid in the semi-finals. Adam Mitchell was red-carded for Auckland City late in the match for a tackle denying a goal-scoring opportunity. After providing resistance for the opening 45 minutes, Auckland City conceded the first goal in first half injury time. Auckland City has been knocked out 3-0 in the opening match of the Football Club World Cup in Morocco by Egypt’s Al Ahly.
