Reports: Kyrie Irving requests trade from Nets before deadline | NBA ... (NBA.com)

The All-Star guard has reportedly informed the team he wants to be dealt before the Feb. 9 trade deadline.

Irving was suspended by the Nets earlier this season after posting a link to a documentary with antisemitic material and vowed upon his return to focus on basketball. The Nets acquired the three-time scoring champion from the Houston Rockets in a January 2021 deal, with the idea that Harden, Kevin Durant and Irving would be too potent to stop. In the 2021-22 campaign, guard James Harden sought a trade from Brooklyn and got one on trade deadline day as he [2023 All-Star Game](https://www.nba.com/allstar/2023/all-star-roster) and is averaging 27.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game this season for the Nets. Irving can leave the franchise this summer as a free agent. Shams Charania of The Athletic reports Irving would prefer to be dealt before the Feb.

'Full circle' LeBron moment set to fuel 'serious' Kyrie-Lakers talks... but troubled past could spoil it all.

James, I’m told, wants to see Irving in Lakerland more than anyone.” “When you look at Russell Westbrook, you look at their two first-round picks, is that enough for Kyrie Irving? Meanwhile, a struggling team who may have the right package to trade for Irving is unlikely to be the best fit for the Nets superstar either given the risk involved.

Kyrie Irving requests trade from Brooklyn Nets before deadline ... (The Guardian)

Kyrie Irving has requested a trade ahead from the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the NBA trade deadline on Thursday, according to multiple sources.

Irving also wound up losing his long relationship with Nike as part of the massive fallout from what he tweeted and the reactions that followed. Durant also had asked the Nets for a trade this past summer, before cooler heads prevailed. [suspended by the Nets](https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/nov/03/kyrie-irving-suspended-brooklyn-nets-antisemitic-beliefs) for what became eight games earlier this season after the team said it was dismayed by his repeated failure to “unequivocally say he has no antisemitic beliefs”. Brooklyn are 31-20 this season, fourth in the Eastern Conference standings entering Friday, and have gone 4-7 since fellow All-Star Kevin Durant hurt his knee in a game at Miami on 8 January. Irving’s agent and stepmother, Shetellia Irving, told Bleacher Report last week that she had reached out to the Nets regarding an extension. They play six of their last seven games before the All-Star break at home; the only “road” game in that stretch is at the New York Knicks.

[Nic Claxton](https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/4278067/nic-claxton) is the other young starter with the biggest upside. Claxton is rostered in 86.8% of leagues, and as mentioned has been playing well of late, so he is likely just a good trade target in general. Simmons is rostered in 81.3% of ESPN leagues, meaning he's available on the free agency wire in about one of every five leagues. But, he has outright dominated the NBA summer league for two straight summers, showing a flare for scoring that should play in the NBA. Thomas is in his second season, and has never gotten the chance to play major rotation minutes at the NBA level. Thomas has averaged 20.0 PPG in 23.5 MPG in his last two outings, has four 15-plus point scoring efforts in his last seven games, and set a career high with 33 points in 29 minutes on Dec. His asking price in a trade is on the floor right now, as well. [Joel Embiid](https://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3059318/joel-embiid) out, where he scored 42 points on 26 field goal attempts! if Kyrie and Durant were gone and the Nets therefore had zero expectations, in a rebuild, might he start to find his groove again? In the last 40 regular season games he played for the 76ers in 2021, Simmons averaged 14.9 PPG on 10.4 FGA, 6.7 RPG, 6.5 APG, 1.6 SPG and 0.5 BPG. The back issues have continued to bother him through this season, but he also clearly hadn't regained the confidence to try to score. Which means the next move would likely be to trade superstar

NBA bombshell as Irving requests Nets exit, reason for explosive ... (Fox Sports)

However, NBA journalist Chris Haynes reports that Irving's camp decided to walk away after the Nets presented an offer tied to the team winning a championship.

Averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 assists and 5.1 rebounds, Irving was voted in as a starter in the Feb. That vaccine refusal saw the Nets pull a full max contract that had been tabled that summer by owner Joe Tsai and general manager Sean Marks. There’s a legitimate chance Irving could be in a different uniform by then, having forced his way out of an unsettled Nets team. That just makes it easier for you to get things done on both ends. “But as a coach, you see the trends of the league: long athletic, multi-dimensional guys that can play on both ends of the floor. Irving – who has been at odds with the Nets at times over the past two years, on both contractually and other issues – told the team if he isn’t moved ahead of the Feb. Despite last summer’s testy negotiations, Brooklyn had been in contract talks with Irving recently and offered an extension; but The Athletic reported that the offer with “guarantee stipulations” was “not well-received”. However, Wojnarowski wrote that neither the Lakers and Mavericks are keen to offer Irving the maximum contract he is seeking - and all of the interested teams are cautious about offering significant trade assets in return for the superstar. The news was first reported by The Athletic, and confirmed by the Post through a source close to the situation.
