'Embarrassed' White Ferns World Cup title aspirations take another hit (RNZ)

The White Ferns have lost their second straight game at the T20 World Cup in South Africa, putting a huge dent in their hopes of making the semi-finals.

I think we've done great things in New Zealand with our domestic cricket but I'm not that it is at the same standard as those other competitions." "I don't know the answer, I honestly don't and that's where it's really hard. We need to find out why that's happening you can't do that, particularly at world cups, so that's some of the discussions we're going to have to have because I know we've got the skill and we work bloody hard as a team. It was their batting that again let them down as they chased 133 for victory, with the White Ferns all out for just 67 in the 19th over. "We'd rather go down swinging than go back into our shells and we probably did that again which is disappointing. I wish there was some magic bullet that could fix it all and we could come right within the next couple of hours but I don't know the answer and that's what we're going to have to figure out as a team and that's what we're going to have to go through as a group because we're in this for the long haul."

“It’s bloody tough to make it now. We’ve done great things in New Zealand with our domestic cricket but I’m not sure it’s at the same standard as those other competitions. “We’ve got the skill to do it. “We’ve put ourselves in this position and we’ve got to be honest with that, but that doesn’t mean those games aren’t valuable to us and that’s what we’ve got to hold ourselves to account with. I’m not too sure what’s going on. “We haven’t played to our potential and it’s been upsetting and it’s been embarrassing and disappointing.

The White Ferns’ bleak net run rate through two matches (−4.050) puts them in a dire position. “I think we’ve done great things in New Zealand with our domestic cricket, but I’m not sure it’s at the same standard as the other competitions. You’re seeing now the WBBL [in Australia], The Hundred [in England], and now the WPL [starting in India]. Devine questioned whether domestic cricket in New Zealand was adequately preparing players for the international arena. They haven’t made the semifinals of a T20 or ODI World Cup since 2016 (T20 World Cup in India). Devine was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for her base price of INR 50 lakh (NZ$95,000). “Honest answer, it’s bloody tough to make it now. “I think you’re living under a rock if you don’t think it wasn’t a distraction. “It’s really hard to lose games of cricket like that. We’ve seen Australia, we’re seeing England, and I’m scared to think what India is going to be like with the opportunities that they’re giving themselves. It was their second lowest T20 total in history, only topped by 60 against England at Whangārei in 2015. Restricting South Africa to what appeared a sub-par total of 132-6 after the Proteas won the toss and opted to bat, the White Ferns crumbled in reply.

'It's embarrassing' - White Ferns collapse again at World Cup (1 News)

The White Ferns' Women's T20 World Cup campaign has taken another hit after suffering a blowout loss to hosts South Africa this morning.

"I think we need to step away from the cricket field and the training field and have some time away because tonight's performance and the other night was not good enough. We've got a couple of days before our next game and we've got to let it out. "I thought it was a competitive score but we always have the belief that we can chase down any score.
