the Algerian had a goal and an assist in the win over Villa and ranks higher than you’d think in City’s all-time ranks. But Man City may not have Erling Haaland as it looks to build off a decisive defeat of Aston Villa. Look for them to be keys to getting through Rodri and Co. And that should be a thank you to them and not a torture.” It was a real derby, difficult opponent to play against but we played a game we wanted to play, not a game Everton wanted to play.” Liverpool moves back into ninth place, ahead of Chelsea by a point with 32 points on the season. Brahim Diaz's early goal was enough for AC Milan to claim a 1-0 win over Tottenham in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 match.
Kane gets to the rebound, hits the underside of the bar and the ball bounces away to safety. The first stop from Hernandez, was good, the second from Diaz on the follow-up was truly astonishing. 20 mins from kickoff: As a former Arsenal and Chelsea striker, Olivier Giroud will have few admirers among a Tottenham fanbase who will be wary of the impact the veteran France international might have upon proceedings. 17th minute: Son aims another delivery into the box from a central position. He hits a clearance over the top and his opposite number Ciprian Tatarusanu comes haring out of his area. Harry Kane gets a glancing header on it but the ball sails well wide. Tatarusanu beats it away but Romero was offside and interfering with play in front of the goalkeeper in any case. He looks to have gone over on his ankle and on come the physios. Rafael Leao collects the loose ball on the left and boots his cross over everyone. Fulltime: Milan will take a slender advantage to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on March 8 thanks to Brahim Diaz's early goal. It's now back-to-back 1-0 wins for the Rossoneri but, on this evidence, most sides in the Champions League would be happy to draw the winner of this tie in the quarter-finals. France wing-back Hernandez drove into the Tottenham box and fired a shot that was saved by Forster.

Another one of those games in which he struggled to make any inroads and he loses the ball sloppily at times, one occasion earning him a rollicking from Dier. The 34-year-old showed his fitness to get up and down the pitch just three days after the Leicester game. His Champions League debut and he looked comfortable and composed alongside his only slightly older midfield team-mate. A busy presence down the right and also tucked in to help the young midfield duo in the centre of the pitch at times. Not a good night on his return to the team. Made two saves in the move that led to Diaz's early headed goal, the second a wonderful reaction stop but nobody was covering the Milan attacker.

Tottenham were once again devoid of ideas and quality as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to AC Milan in leg one of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie.
Newcastle will be looking at its injury report as Callum Wilson, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Miguel Almiron are all in question with Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock both out, too. City seems likely to start Phil Foden given the youngster was left on the bench to start the midweek win over Arsenal, and Foden’s chemistry with Erling Haaland was palpable earlier in the season. That’s made Keylor Navas a wonderful signing, as the legendary Costa Rican goalkeeper has picked up where the injured Dean Henderson left off earlier this season as a star stopper. Pape Matar Sarr could also start with Spurs light on central midfield options. The big injury news ahead of this game was a huge blow for Spurs as Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a ruptured ACL in his left knee. Somehow, Forster got a strong hand on Diaz’s first follow-up, but by that point he was laid flat on his back with the ball bounding high above him and Diaz following up again with real intent.
