BAFTAs 2023: The best celebrity looks from the red carpet (Stuff.co.nz)

From Florence Pugh to Jodie Turner-Smith, all the fabulous outfits - and opera gloves - from the awards ceremony in London.

Like the Princess of Wales, this is a re-wear – Cate wore this to the 2015 Oscars with a turqoise necklace and very similar hair. Sophie Turner, a 'face' of the luxury house, is one of the few who are able to pull it off with ease, as she does in this lace, embellished look. I love the simple styling of this with the matching gloves (more gloves!) and the jewellery with nose piercing. The one-shouldered white dress is by Alexander McQueen, and Tatler reports that it is likely a rework of a dress from her wardrobe. I could live without the earrings which look a little cheap and costume, and that's because they were - apparently they were from Zara. The Princess always ups the ante on the BAFTA red carpet, and I appreciate her giving us some glamour with this draped grecian style gown with gloves look.

Bafta Awards 2023 review: Most jokes landed with the thud of a ... (The Independent)

Richard E Grant and Alison Hammond took on hosting duties for the first time, in yet another awards night that failed to live up to the drama of the Oscars.

Naturally, awards for things like Editing, Casting and Documentary (where the winners were not unusually glamorous) were relegated to a couple of minutes worth of montage. That’s a generous interpretation: by the time the show reached its conclusion, the only thing palpable was a deep, unintended, patina of cringe. Some play it too safe and end up in a milquetoast middle ground, others go for the biting satire of edgy stand-up and run the risk of offending a room full of Hollywood decision makers. “I feel like a competition winner,” she announced, as she took to the stage. A joke that, as the ceremony proceeded, felt closer to the bone. That kills both the innate tension of the prizegiving and also stifles the possibility for the sort of spontaneous carnage that has typified events at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

The creators lamented his absence and that of investigative journalist Christo Grozev, who could not be at the ceremony due to "a public security risk". I have to fly to Berlin," the actress explained. He described her as "the amazing Kerry Condon, who I first worked with on a play at the RSC 21 years ago. "It encourages the arts at home, we are an island of storytelling. "Yeah, it was all I thought about," he deadpanned. Should we listen to it for a minute?" I believe that tonight's stage has been a pretty high mountain." "I have to get up at six o'clock in the morning. "Is Pinocchio with you?" As she was being interviewed by journalists, Condon caught sight of a live TV feed in the corner of the press room and saw Banshees writer and director Martin McDonagh step up to the stage to accept the award for best original screenplay. But he did arrive at the venue on the river Thames in the Batmobile, on the advice of Hollywood star Steve Martin no less. Not content with a white tux jacket, he added a dramatic white Dracula-style floor-length cape to make his grand entrance.
