Louis Vuitton Recruits New York Graffiti Legends for a New Milan ... (artnet News)

Former creative director Virgil Abloh initiated the project and tapped Lady Pink, Lee Quiñones, and Rammellzee to participate.

We were both of the mind that it’s our duty as fans and people who respect them to help push and accelerate that narrative while they’re still active and making art.” The pair’s first Louis Vuitton crossover occurred when Gellatly’s longtime client, the graffiti artist The sneaker show and collab are hitting at a fascinating period, in the preamble to Pharrell Williams’s ascension to creative director, while the concept itself has been percolating since the Virgil Abloh-era of the brand (the late designer introduced the sneaker with his debut show). “Um, not overtly,” he says. Featured artists are Wild Style-era spray paint legends Lady Pink, Lee Quiñones, and Rammellzee, all of whom cracked into the gallery realm after pioneering the New York graffiti movement by turning subway trains into moving canvases during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Farmers on canvas (The Kathmandu Post)

Having grown up in a community of farmers, Niroj Bade wanted to show through his paintings how modernisation has affected agriculture.

He also got his Master’s degree from Lalit Kala, and it was during this time that he started creating some of the paintings that are included in the Khamus exhibition. Another painting in the Khamus exhibition presents a farmer walking into an industrial area carrying the traditional tool over his shoulders containing modern products. So, seeing the size of these fields decrease so dramatically over the years compelled him to talk about it in his art. Also, one of his first memories of farming is seeing many Khamus lying around his house, so he wanted to include the tool in his paintings. Being the only person in his family who isn’t involved in farming, Bade was nervous to see how his family and community would react to his work. “Thimi was so green, and the majority of people living here were farmers when I was younger,” he says, adding that seeing very few people interested in farming now upsets him.

Cards & Canvas (BallNine)

“We were all stuck in the house and at the time my wife [Meredith] said we have to start cleaning up,” Plona said. “I started cleaning random stuff and came ...

Plona was able to work in more than a dozen ‘Easter Eggs’ in the painting in a process that took several weeks. “To be able to make stuff which people truly love is an honor and a privilege that is incredibly humbling. It wasn’t until about my 20th card that I decided that I needed to do something on the back. “I knew right off the bat that I wanted it to be gray scale. And I just wanted to make it something totally unique.” Additionally, he painted a graveyard scene on the back of the card, featuring a prominent tombstone that read “Career Stolen Base Record 8/29/77-5/1/91”. The original card features Henderson on a 1984 Topps card with the speedster looking like a zombie/skeleton as he takes off from a base in an attempt to steal. If someone commissions a piece and doesn’t send him a card, Plona will go through his hundreds of old wax pack cards, looking for the player that he thinks will fit the collector’s needs. “It’s all about figuring out what a person wants and getting it right; making sure that their reaction tells you that it turned out better than they wanted it to be. He will make additions to cards, adding smoke or fire for example, while also creating an image on the back on the card, using it as a tiny canvas. The chain of events, which included some chiding from his wife, led Plona to discover that he could combine two of his loves – baseball and drawing. “I need to get back on to them but I have nowhere to setup right now,” said Plona, whose day job is as a packaging buyer.
