All Blacks: The next head coach front runner, contender, outside ... (planetrugby.com)

The front runner, contender, outside bets and wild card for who could replace Ian Foster as head coach of the All Blacks after the Rugby World Cup.

His son struggles with epilepsy, and in an interview with Stuff.co.nz in 2021, he was asked if he wanted to coach the All Blacks one day, he replied: “Not really, I’m not really sure. McMillian is also the Maori All Blacks head coach and was the New Zealand Provincial Barbarians coach that faced the Lions in 2017. He filled in as interim head coach for the Chiefs in 2021 as Warren Gatland led the British and Irish Lions. His contract with the Reds is coming to an end this season, and he could put his name forward. I will be massively frank, I love the All Blacks because as a Kiwi kid growing up that’s what you want to be and that hasn’t changed at all. He was also one of Roberston’s potential assistants when he applied for the All Blacks role in 2020. He led the lesser-fancied side to NPC championship success in 2020. He has also assisted the New Zealand U20s and, more recently, was the All Blacks XV coach last November. Finally, former Ireland head coach Joe Schmidt is another outside bet for the role. It’s unclear whether MacDonald would still be interested in the same role under Robertson if he got the All Blacks job. Chiefs head coach Clayton McMillian has been making waves in New Zealand rugby for some time now. On Wednesday, New Zealand Rugby (NZR) confirmed that the process to select the All Blacks head coach from 2024 had commenced. Joseph coached the Brave Blossoms at their home Rugby World Cup in 2019.

Why Scott Robertson isn't a shoo-in yet for the All Blacks job after Ian ... (Stuff.co.nz)

There is still a lot of water to flow under the New Zealand Rugby bridge before a new coach is announced in four to six weeks' time. NZ Rugby chair Dame Patsy ...

Respected during his time with the Crusaders, Cotter could make a forwards coach option for a new All Blacks coach. The sun has set on the former Crusaders and Wallabies’ coach’s All Blacks aspirations. If the Blues head coach does join the All Blacks mix next year it’s more likely to be as an assistant. Has transformed Italy’s style of play, but is contracted to the Azzurri until July 2024. A job in Japan is his more likely next destination. Will he be tempted now Foster is no longer in the mix? If it’s international experience that tips the balance, then the ex-teacher leads the pack after seven years building Ireland into a major test force. The former All Blacks fullback is about to head to his third World Cup assignment, this time with Italy after two campaigns in charge of Canada. Foster’s decision to walk the plank was hardly a bombshell. It’s been more-of-the-same under Foster at a time when other nations have caught up. With NZR committed to naming a new coach before the World Cup it would have been more of a shock had he survived. New Zealand rugby fans wouldn’t countenance a foreign coach.

Rugby: All Blacks coaching change could spark widespread cleanout (New Zealand Herald)

Ian Foster's wider coaching and management team face a major cleanout after the World Cup.

Others may attempt to position themselves to carry on under Robertson or Joseph. With families and livelihoods to consider, some of those staff will start pondering their futures and lining up alternate jobs. Foster’s coaching staff altered drastically last year when he sacked assistants Brad Mooar and John Plumtree following the home series defeat to Ireland. Eddie Jones, after Dave Rennie’s entire Wallabies assistant coaches exited in recent weeks, brought former NRL fullback Brett Hodgson with him from England to Australia. But with Robertson pushing his case for the top job there are no guarantees McLeod survives beyond this year, either. Foster seizing the reins over Scott Robertson four years ago was another vote for continuity.
