Arsenal host Everton at the Emirates today hoping to extend their lead above Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

A tricky first half but they solved problems at the right times. "Once we scored the first goal, the game unlocked. In the second half they showed what a side they are. We needed a magic moment and Bukayo produced that. We had some difficulties at the start. I've told the players that. The Athletic asked Mikel Arteta about Zinchenko and Saka's initiative creating Arsenal's second goal: "You have to produce those magic moments and take that initiative. When you have that and the talent they have, good things will happen. "Every game is a big time. When you're 2-0 up it brings the freedom. "Forty minutes, a goal out of nothing. [Gabriel Martinelli](https://theathletic.com/football/player/gabriel-martinelli-NsmAJRRvnAnaLr6r/) then doubled the hosts' lead in first-half stoppage time after VAR overruled an offside decision.

Arsenal look to cash in on their game in hand in the Premier League title fight as they host Everton at The Emirates in a midweek showdown.

In fact, the game flow odds indicate the betting market has questions about Everton being able to score. Everton, meanwhile, are upwards of 8/1 underdogs on the moneyline. 120 mins to kick: Arsenal can become the first English club to register 100 top-flight league victories against a single opponent, sitting on 99 league wins against Everton. However Leandro Trossard offered a better approximation of the Brazilian than Eddie Nketiah, who had been nursing a slight knock in the week.— James Benge (@jamesbenge) It's not exactly something Everton are exceptional at, as their 46 percent rate is third-worst in the league, but the Toffees do have a high volume, contesting 679 of them, which is seventh in the English top flight. Arsenal are not a team that has excelled in the air this season, winning just 44 percent of their aerial duels this year, the lowest percentage in the Premier League. We're working with the squad as we find it on a week-by-week basis.”— Joe Thomas (@joe_thomas18) Keane last started a Premier League match in the final game of last season, a 5-1 defeat at this very stadium against this very opponent. 4th min: Arsenal are having trouble getting out of their own half of the pitch under pressure from a high Everton press, but eventually they find Bukayo Saka on the outlet and advance forward to earn a corner. Pickford (GK) — 23. Ramsdale (GK) — 4. Arsenal will also want revenge for defeat to Everton just a month ago in Sean Dyche's debut with the relegation-threatened club.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were again far from the force of recent seasons, but have now taken 10 points from a possible 12 in their last four league games to remain in the hunt for a top-four finish. Saka was the provider for Arsenal’s second as he seized possession from the dozing Idrissa Gueye and found Martinelli, who slotted home from close-range for a goal that was confirmed after a VAR check for a tight offside claim against the Brazilian. Gabriel Martinelli starred as Arsenal moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League with a 4-0 rout of struggling Everton on Wednesday.

It's quite a moment for Kompany upcoming with Burnely already having one foot in the Premier League barring quite a collapse but it wasn't an easy road to get there. But for Sheffield United, the dream run continues and with a seven-point lead on an automatic promotion place, the team can afford to rotate in the Championship. Burnley needed the full 90 minutes before Connor Roberts grabbed the winner but it was a big one due to who Burnely will face in the next round. Kompany will return home for a date against Manchester City, his former club, and the Burnley squad will get to admire the statute of their boss outside of the Etihad. Sheffield United didn't do much better with only one shot finding the target but that's all it takes sometimes as Iliman Ndiaye's strike in the 79th minute made the difference. While that doesn't equate to promotion for them, the players on this side will be etched in Grimsby's history for years to come.

Your Premier League club's best goal (BBC Sport)

BBC Sport's Premier League fan community unearth the best goal they have seen their team score.

I remember the feeling in the crowd of stunned amazement and euphoria - it was simply incredible. But it is a goal that, despite the fact I was born in the year it was scored, can be visualised so clearly. Personally, the best goal I've seen would have to be Dele Alli's away at Crystal Palace in 2016. no goalkeeper was saving that free-kick in front of the away fans. This is the goal most remembered for City racking up 44 passes before it hit the back of the net. It's a left-field choice, but the best team goal I've seen Liverpool score live came against Hoffenheim in the second leg of their 2017 Champions League qualifier at Anfield. When he took that shot and slotted it past Mignolet into the goal sending him flying, the whole of the King Power was bouncing! I was 11 years old at the time, and I saw Jermaine Beckford as a modern-day super hero. It can only be Steve Sidwell's epic strike from around the halfway line against Bristol City, before immediately running to the touchline to hold aloft Anthony Knockaert's number 11 shirt in celebration. A corner was half-cleared from the visitors and Ritchie controlled the ball off his chest, smashing a left-footed volley past goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon. Stan Collymore against Atletico Madrid in the Uefa Cup, March 1998. The best goal I have seen my team score would have to be from Thierry Henry.

Premier League CEO calls for 'tweak' to FA's visa system for player ... (The Guardian)

Richard Masters said visas contributed to the league's record spend and the system was designed to increase England-qualified players.

What the Premier League needs is more Brightons and Brentfords who are getting up there, providing variety and staying up.” I am not here to defend them but you have to judge these things over a period of time.” Chelsea’s outlay of more than £300m on players in January doubled the previous record and took their spending to more than £600m under their American owners. Within our rules it’s a test over a 12-month period, so the question is whether they are going to sell some of their existing players in the next window. It’s partially to do with the GBE system.” “While we’re totally committed to developing young, homegrown players and we want Gareth Southgate to be successful, when you have a limited supply of players you can go for and you’ve got lots of demand, then it’s slightly inflationary.

Your Premier League club's best goal (BBC News)

Arsenal · Aston Villa · Bournemouth · Brentford · Brighton & Hove Albion · Chelsea · Crystal Palace · Everton.

Premier League clubs spending more due to Brexit, says CEO (ESPN)

The new visa system put in place after Brexit is a factor in Premier League clubs spending record sums on transfers, said CEO Richard Masters.

"Some of this has nothing to do with the GBE system. "Within our rules it's a test over a 12-month period, so the question is whether they are going to sell some of their existing players in the next window." [Enzo Fernandez](https://www.espn.com/soccer/player/_/id/285450/Enzo-Fernández) -- was more than the combined totals of all clubs in the [Bundesliga](/soccer/league/_/name/GER.1), [LaLiga](/soccer/league/_/name/ESP.1), [Serie A](/soccer/league/_/name/ITA.1) and [Ligue 1](/soccer/league/_/name/FRA.1)1. "They might have bought, but they would probably argue they have a different transfer policy to the previous regime with younger players, longer contracts and lower wages. "Ultimately we have generated an earned advantage over our European investors and a lot of that earned advantage goes to those European investors in transfer fees for players that we can no longer buy at a younger age," Masters added. English clubs cannot sign Europe-based players under the age of 18, however, and Masters said at the Financial Times Business of Football Summit in London that the immigration system "needs a bit of a tweak."

Premier League red cards and redefining their impact (The Athletic)

Not all red cards are created equal, so we've come up with a better way of assessing their impact in the Premier League.

Is it true that it’s sometimes more difficult to play against 10 men, as the cliche goes? The same applies — just about — to Nicky Butt and Luis Boa Morte (currently the first team coach at red card net-positive Fulham) too. So while Vieira and Ferguson were both shown a red card eight times, Ferguson’s red cards were 60 per cent more costly. This also applies, of course, to individual players. [Rob Holding](https://theathletic.com/football/player/rob-holding-XeBiBxNAPU7wlkvX/)’s dismissal in a crucial end-of-season north London derby was particularly useful in helping Spurs finish in the top four and qualify for the [Champions League](https://theathletic.com/football/champions-league/). 0 In other words, if a player is dismissed in the 85th minute, they are recorded as having missed 10 minutes of action. We also rarely see information about how many red cards have been shown to a particular team’s opponents over a season, which can often be extremely relevant. You can discover that You can easily find information on yellow and red cards. They were easy to recognise, easy to count, and they had some degree of relevance to the competition — the fair play table has, on occasion, resulted in teams qualifying for Europe. In a world of advanced metrics and increasingly sophisticated data analytics, it’s worth remembering that, just a couple of decades ago, public access to all this information was extremely limited.
