Compared to his successes in touring cars and sportscars, Eric van de Poele's Formula 1 career was thoroughly unfulfilling. But the five-time Spa 24 Hours ...
“And then one day with your old friend you go to Roma with a van and a trailer and you bring back your F1 car at home. Okay I knew the track, but it was not an advantage compared to the other ones" Eric van de Poele He didn’t know it at the time, but it would mark the end of his F1 career. “But the potential of that car was really incredible, it’s why I was competitive straight away in Spa. His race unfortunately didn’t last long, ending with a spin on lap three, but on home turf at Spa van de Poele was in confident mood. “It was incredible, in my warming lap I was qualified!” van de Poele remembers. For a comparison, as the slowest team of 2022 Williams was 2.516% off the pace. We knew the team was really down, but we had fantastic way to work together.” He’d stepped up to F1 in 1991 aboard the Modena Lamborghini and came within a whisker of a giantkilling fifth place in the San Marino Grand Prix, but never again managed to qualify it for a race. However van de Poele regards it not only as the best F1 car he drove in anger, but also “the best car I had on a track”. “I was just sad to have done only three races], I had not really a lot of time to be in the car. But BMW’s all-conquering M3 tin-top, with which van de Poele also won the DTM crown in 1987, and the Maserati MC12 GT1 he took to three wins between 2005 and 2008 are beaten to top spot by an unlikely candidate.

The best driver and constructor F1 Fantasy picks for the 2023 Bahrain Grand Prix, including some need to know tips and tricks.
Drivers will be awarded for individual qualifying performance, with ten points given to pole position all the way down to 1 point for tenth. Players will have access to four ‘chips’, only one of which can be used to give you a boost before each race weekend. Ahead of each race, you will have two free transfers to customise your driver or constructor lineup. There is now no benefit in timing your transfers during the week: dynamic pricing used to allow players to trade their way to astronomical team values. Mini-league competitions, running over a small number of race weekends will offer the chance to win more. Red Bull gives you a good chance of bagging the ten bonus points for performing the fastest stop in each race: it was fastest in ten of last year’s 22 GPs. There’s a prominent countdown clock on the team selection page, to help you make the cut. A speedy team can also claim further points for the secind- and third-fastest stops. So if Logan Sargeant clinches pole after a haphazard Monte Carlo qualifying session, that’s probably your opportunity to play it. Fast-starters can rack up points from the moment that lights go out, with bonuses for overtaking and making up places (1 point per place in both cases). If they perform strongly, then their price should rise, giving you the opportunity to sell at a profit. However, they also represent an opportunity given their low values at the start of the season.

Both options that have been employed feature a spoon-shaped mainplane, but this variant has a narrower central section and steeper transition to a much shallower outboard section. While not as potent a solution as the upwash strakes that teams used to place here, the swage line that Alpine has incorporated into the endplate is a nice feature that will surely provide an uptick in performance compared with a regularly contoured alternative. While Alfa completed its pre-season test without such an arrangement, it has been added for the race weekend. Fernando Alonso started his Formula One career 22 years ago and began this season with two strong practices on opening day of the Bahrain Grand Prix.
"We want to have a good baseline, a good platform to develop the car during 2023 and maybe fight for something bigger next year," he said. That's quite worrying for other drivers, considering he crushed the competition last year with a record 15 wins. His third place at the Qatar GP in late 2021 was his first podium since 2014. The Dutchman is only 25 years old but has 35 wins. He is teammates with Lance Stroll, the son of Aston's executive chairman. The two-time F1 champion has 32 career wins but none since a victory for Ferrari in 2013.

Australian Formula One rookie Oscar Piastri might be fighting against a tidal wave of headnoise and conjecture as we head into the first round of the 2023 ...
Meanwhile, former two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, who has been in Formula One longer than Piastri has been alive, has shown he still has what it takes to compete at the top level, dazzling under lights in FP2 to top the standings in the Aston Martin in a sparkling display of one-lap pace. Piastri has won every championship he has competed in since 2019, winning the Formula Renault Eurocup, then Formula 3 and Formula 2 ahead of signing with Alpine as a reserve driver for 2022, and joining McLaren this year. It may be a signal of more significant balance issues with the car given that Piastri also locked up multiple times into the turn one hairpin, but the Australian’s ability to remain composed under pressure is surely a good sign. The start of Bahrain’s second sector is a set of intricate left-right combinations that can throw you off with their high kerbs if the entry isn’t perfect, and Piastri caught his McLaren MCL60 in a moment of snap oversteer, impressing onlookers who expected the car to be shunted into the track wall. Australian Formula One rookie Oscar Piastri might be fighting against a tidal wave of headnoise and conjecture as we head into the first round of the 2023 Formula One World Championship, but he’s shown he’s got what it takes to stay calm under pressure after a hairy moment in Piastri not only avoided a huge rear-end collision into Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin after the Canadian appeared from the pit lane while Piastri was engaged in a bit of light jousting down the main straight with the Alpha Tauri of Yuki Tsunoda, but he also saved what would have been a session-ending prang coming out of turn seven.

PART ONE - TEAM REPRESENTATIVES Andrea STELLA (McLaren), Christian HORNER (Red Bull Racing), Frédéric VASSEUR (Alfa Romeo) Q: First up, Andrea, ...
I think we're a team that likes to work collaboratively, we like to be able to have good interactions with the people we work with. I think in terms of where we're trying to get to with weight, what we're trying to do with aero, we were sort of hitting the targets we'd set ourselves. So I think that's a fundamental point that is bigger than the individual interests of the teams and the manufacturers that we need to work collectively to ensure that the product for 2026 is going to deliver on the expectation that there is. I think over the winter, we've got on top of a lot of the issues we had in the car and we've come here feeling like we've got a better package to work with. And I think even on the top that it's perhaps that the newcomers, I'm not sure that they will be ready to supply more than one team because it's already a big challenge to do one team when you are joining Formula 1 and I'm not sure that they will be ready to do that it mean that we will have to find a compromise but it will be OK. It's a halcyon period for the sport and to have manufacturers wanting to be involved, you know, is a testimony to the strength that the sport currently enjoys. And there's got to be a hunger, there's got to be a passion. So I would consider that one as a minor [issue], but impactful in terms of downtime, but not really impactful in terms of concern for the race. But something that you hadn't mentioned is that of course, you're now in the WMSC as a team representative in your Ferrari position, and also that you have control over the Ferrari veto. And we have to continue to develop the car over the season. FV: Yeah, I think that clearly there is more emotion, passion, and so around Ferrari, but at the end of the day, I think all the racing teams are similar on the fact that we have the same DNA. because it's all the effort that goes on behind the scenes, in terms of getting the parts, delivering the parts, getting the cars built and delivered here to a set of regulations.
