Miami Heat notes on their draft lottery odds if they miss the playoffs, and notes on the team's offense, defense, Victor Oladipo and more.
7 spot in the lottery comes with a 7.5 chance of the top pick, 7.8 for the second pick and a 31.96 chance for a top three pick. Miami’s offensive rating (points per 100 possessions) is 23rd since the All Star stoppage, at 106.4. In a scenario where the Heat goes on a long losing streak, Miami could miss the play-in tournament and “rise” as high to the No.7 spot, though that’s unlikely. That team has a 2.41 percent chance for a top four pick. 2 and a 13.88 chance for a top-four selection. The team with the best record among non-playoff teams has only a 0.5 chance to secure the No.

The Heat will cover the spread if Butler, Herro, and Adebayo can score in bunches. The Hawks and Heat have split the season series, with each winning a game. However, they have not shown they can carry the load. The Heat won the battle of the boards 39-34. First, the Hawks defeated the Heat 106-98 before losing a later game 121-113. But they remain the worst defensive team in the NBA, ranking 30th in blocked shots. The Hawks have stayed above water this season. Meanwhile, the Heat come into the game with a record of 33-31. The Hawks are coming into this game with a record of 32-31, and are eighth in the Eastern Conference. The Hawks also won the battle of the boards 43-34. Ultimately, the Hawks shot 57.1 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from beyond the arc. On Friday, the Heat fell 122-120 to the New York Knicks.
We go over some of the best betting options for Saturday's matchup between the Atlanta Hawks and Miami Heat.
While the Hawks have the 11th best offense in the NBA, they’re one of the NBA’s more inconsistent teams and are still adjusting to new coach Quin Synder. While the Heat have the fifth best defense in the NBA, they could be limited if Butler doesn’t play. The Heat are 4-6 over their last 10 games, with all four of those wins being by four points or less. The Heat have only covered in 36.1% of their games this year, the worst record in the NBA against the spread. This is another tough one to predict because of the contrasting styles. Trae Young played for Atlanta Friday with a groin injury and could sit this one out.
Roberto Arguello breaks down Saturday's Hawks vs. Heat matchup and shares his betting preview and prediction.
In the last matchup between these teams on January 16th, the Heat came out flat and allowed the Hawks to take a 70-50 halftime lead before playing a more competitive second half. The Heat rank fifth in Defensive Rating (112.3) this season but need a more focused effort to start the first half on Saturday against the Hawks. This has been a big reason why the Heat’s offense has fallen from 11th in Offensive Rating (114.2) last season to 25th this year (111.8). However, the Heat went from ranking first in 3-point Accuracy Allowed last season (34.1%) to 22nd this season (37.2%). If you are looking to back the Hawks in this game, I’d do it when Butler and Adebayo share their first simultaneous minutes on the bench together. The content on this page is for informational purposes only. We may be compensated for the links provided on this page. Both teams are playing in the second leg of a back-to-back after playing on Friday night. The Heat defense has allowed opponents to take the second-most 3-point shots (39.9% of shots) this season. Players like Bogdan Bogdanovic, Dejounte Murray, Trae Young and DeAndre Hunter will need to take advantage of their open looks tonight. These teams have split the two previous matchups this season, with both games being played in Atlanta. The Hawks don’t take a ton of 3s, ranking 29th in 3-point Shot Frequency (30.1%), as they have dropped from third in 3-point Accuracy last season (37.8%) to 22nd this season (35.4%).
NBA odds, picks, and predictions for the Atlanta Hawks at Miami Heat on March 4. NBA betting best bet and free pick analysis.
The Over is 36-27 in all of Atlanta’s games this season, but it’s particularly fond of putting up points (and allowing them) on the road. The [Hawks](https://www.covers.com/sport/basketball/nba/teams/main/atlanta-hawks), meanwhile, are delighted coming off of a monster win over Portland. [Heat](https://www.covers.com/sport/basketball/nba/teams/main/miami-heat) are deflated, coming off a loss to the Knicks which saw them come back and take a late lead in the final minute. That, combined with a lethal ranking of fifth in pace tends to drive their games toward the Over. It’ll be worth watching this line to see if it moves toward Atlanta, particularly considering half of its wins against the spread have come as the underdog. That’s a lethal combination I don’t want any part of. Perhaps catching wind of this, the sharps seem to be lining up to take Atlanta. Atlanta has really been shooting the ball well from deep of late, sinking 38.7% of its looks over the past 10 games which ranks fifth in the NBA. They are scoring a pretty 120.5 points per 100 possessions and are sixth in true shooting percentage. Atlanta and the Miami Heat are locked in an epic battle for Eastern Conference positioning, and both will collide here on Saturday. On back-to-backs they’ve also struggled, covering in just three of nine. This isn’t a particularly great matchup for the home team, either.

Miami lost 122-120 to New York on a last-minute deep three from New York's power forward Allowing an average of 116.89 points per game, the Hawks haven't exactly asserted themselves on the defensive end. Miami's loss came about despite a quality game from small forward [Jimmy Butler](https://www.cbssports.com/nba/players/playerpage/1646703), who had 33 points and five assists in addition to eight boards. Keep an eye on the score for this one: these two teams posted some lofty points totals in their previous games, so things might heat up even more when they meet Saturday.
Julius Randle's insane game-winner capped off a 43-point night for him and gave the Knicks their eighth straight win, beating the Heat.
But Miami got back into the game after halftime, chipping away and eventually got the lead – 107-106, on a 3-pointer by Martin with 5:45 left. Randle got the ball from Knicks teammate [Jalen Brunson](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/30604/jalen-brunson) with 11 seconds left. New York led 71-56 at the half, after another first two quarters of Miami being unable to get stops. Randle headed toward the sideline, only to have Butler knock the ball away with 5.7 seconds left – yet it somehow stayed inbounds and skipped right back into Randle’s hands. 5 New York, fell 2 1/2 games behind No. [Tyler Herro](https://www.nbcsportsedge.com/basketball/nba/player/51044/tyler-herro) had a steal and layup to put Miami up by one with 23.1 seconds remaining.
The Knicks run some nice after-timeout players throughout the game, but more often than not game-ending actions tend to be Randle or Jalen Brunson going one-on- ...
The temptation here is to get the ball to Brunson in the corner. Two weeks later, Lin was lost for the year with a torn meniscus. There’s a woman to the right of Randle with silver hair and a black top. The Cavs are not the Bucks/Celtics/76ers. The twist comes next: as soon Randle rises to shoot, she holds her hands with her head. So much at stake as the ball flies through the air. Butler is able to knock the ball away from him briefly, allowing Herro to position himself right in front of him. Somewhere in the deep recesses of memory, you may have envisioned Randle losing the ball out of bounds and wheeling around with both arms up, as quick to unleash blame as he is a side-step 3. Julius Randle is trying to create 45 feet from the hoop while defended by Jimmy Butler, a man named to five All-Defense teams. Tyler Herro runs at Randle from all the way across the other sideline. The Knicks run some nice after-timeout players throughout the game, but more often than not game-ending actions tend to be Randle or Jalen Brunson going one-on-one while the other 3-4 Knicks stand still, an option still buffering just in case their defender happens to spontaneously combust. But now is not then, no matter the resemblance.
Sure enough, the Heat benefitted from an absurd foul call (Tyler Herro ran into Bam Adebayo, but Immanuel Quickley was called for the foul) and brutal Knicks ...
Hell, the Knicks might mess around and win the game anyway! Ever the foul merchant, Butler went to the line a preposterous 20 times on the evening on his way to 33 points. He powered his way to the bucket to the tune of 17 points. Thibs must have noticed it too, since he put Quickley back in for the final few minutes. - Some Thibs weirdness: He removed IQ for Barrett in the fourth and put Barrett on Herro again, which made no sense in my opinion. - On offense, RJ Barrett had his way with the smaller Heat backcourt. The Knicks got the biggest bucket of their season. The Knicks stumbled and bumbled through most of those 24 seconds, with Julius Randle ending up with ball near the sideline. I also thought he played some of the best defense on Butler of any Knick. I actually kind of hope more teams double Brunson during the last few weeks of the regular season, just so the team can get used to it. Over the past two decades, they have been less a rival and more a remorseless tormentor. He’s experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
For the game, they will have their best player in the starting lineup, as Jimmy Butler has been upgraded to available. Underdog NBA: "Jimmy Butler (knee) ...
