Pitched up full on middle, Woakes drives it straight back and it seemingly holds in the surface a touch, he goes through his shot a touch early and pops it straight back to the bowler who juggles it first before holding on. Bowled full on off, Archer took a couple of steps down the wicket before drilling it through to the extra-cover fence Two more wickets fell on the back off that and that pushed England on to the backfoot. Bangladesh never let them off the hook, the spinners kept things tight and Buttler, who was the last recognized batter, fell trying to play the reverse-sweep. On a slow wicket, Bangladesh batted quite well to post 246 and they backed it up with a clinical bowling performance. England captain: We desperately wanted to win this game but we're still delighted to win the series. We're really looking forward to the T20 series, it's a format we like so we're hoping for an exciting series. We wanted to play on wickets like there and it was great to challenge ourselves. Player of the Series: It felt good, lot of credit goes to our bowlers. We were in a good position in the first game but we threw it away. Lot of room for improvement, we are a good team in ODIs but there's a lot of room for improvement when we go overseas. We thought we were 20-30 runs short, the situation we were in, we could have scored more.

Shakib Al Hasan's all-round heroics lift Bangladesh to consolation win (ESPNcricinfo.com)

Shakib notches a half-century and four wickets in an ODI for record-breaking fourth time.

But the home side's relief was to have avoided a whitewash at home, with Sri Lanka having inflicted the last one in 2014. Rashid removed Mahmudullah cheaply too, before Shakib took over the bulk of the scoring. 5 in the absence of Will Jacks, scratched around for 49 balls for his 23, before hitting one down long-off's throat in the 24th over. But when Salt hit one to cover point where Mahmudullah took a simple catch, Shakib had given Bangladesh the important first wicket. Three wickets in nine balls turned 54 for no loss into 55 for 3, bringing the home side back in the contest. Adil Rashid also fell to Taijul, in his last over. His partnership with James Vince added 49 runs, but the direction of the match would always depend on the next pair. Shakib scored a quickfire 75 to help Bangladesh to a fighting 246 all out, before taking 4 for 35. The amazing showing was a reminder of Shakib's quality and class as an allrounder. The ball kept a little low but that's usually how Shakib's undercutter looks as it skids into the stumps. The visitors were off to a flyer after Jason Roy and Phil Salt struck a flurry of boundaries in the first nine overs. The small Chattogram crowd burst into life when Shakib took his fourth wicket, making him the first Bangladeshi to reach this feat.

Before their final match in the inaugural—and only—edition of the ICC's ODI Super League, England arrived in Chattogram on Saturday.

The match on Monday in Chattogram is a clear denial of such assertion. He needs a score in Chattogram because he has gone five ODI innings in a succession without reaching 50. Each side was only slated to face eight opponents out of a possible twelve, yet the fixture list nevertheless produced a series that may not have occurred otherwise. But they don’t matter for the rest. He struggled in this series, however, scoring only 7 points out of a possible 15 in the first game before cutting his first ball to the point in the second. Star's stunning feat creates cricket history as England suffers shock loss amid 'unthinkable' scenes.

We were happy with the score they posted but Bangladesh fought back hard with the ball,” said Buttler. In between Shakib’s two wickets, Ebadot dismissed Dawid Malan for a duck. “We got exactly what we wanted from this series. Former superstars Shahid Afridi and Chris Gayle did it three times during their respective careers. The Bangladeshi became the first ever cricketer to score 50 and take at least four wickets in the same ODI on four occasions. Shakib top-scored with 75 to guide Bangladesh to 246 and then claimed 4-35 to help the home side bowl out England for 196 in 43.1 overs, ending the series with a 2-1 defeat.

Bangladesh v England: third men's cricket one-day international – live (The Guardian)

England XI: Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Dawid Malan, James Vince, Sam Curran, Jos Butler (c, wk), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Rehan Ahmed, Adil Rashid, Jofra Archer.

This third and final ODI is a trial of sorts – a last chance for fringe World Cup players to shake their tail feathers until the autumn. Sam Curran needs to be able to sift through the rubbish, and there is a lot of rubbish when you’re playing for five, six teams in a year. Small boundaries, fast outfield, a dry surface – Bangladesh need to bountiful runs here to try and prevent a clean sweep for England. 1st over: Bangladesh 2-1 (Tamim 1, Shanto 0) Just the start Bangladesh didn’t want as Sam Curran pockets a wicket in his first over once more. Very interesting from Steven Finn on Sam Curran and the information overload that can happen in these data times. Rashid hands over the England cap in Chattogram (Chittagong).
