Usman Khawaja century caps confident performance by Australia (ESPNcricinfo.com)

There have been few instances of visiting batters being comfortable against India in India and this was one of them.

The six false responses in 33 overs in the middle session was the highest control percentage for a visiting side in India in a session of Test cricket in India in the last 10 years. With a 70-over old ball, Shami managed to hold the line to go past Handscomb's edge and send the off stump on a cartwheel. Here, India took the new ball with nine overs to go, and Green took to it. With not much expected from their lower order, Australia had to be watchful in the middle session. Only to lose the gamble with the new ball at the end of the day and hand Australia a slight advantage. Led by Ashwin, India started to turn the screws. This is when India would have been reminded of the A measure of how difficult it was for the bowlers is that India managed to draw only 34 false responses; there were 40 in the first session of the last Test. For long periods, Ashwin managed to keep the batters in check even though he didn't beat the bat. [R Ashwin](http://www.espncricinfo.com/player/ravichandran-ashwin-26421)and [Ravindra Jadeja](http://www.espncricinfo.com/player/ravindra-jadeja-234675)managed one each, and [Axar Patel](http://www.espncricinfo.com/player/axar-patel-554691)provided control in his 12 overs for just 14 runs. Khawaja scored a fine, patient hundred, only the sixth against India in India in the last five years. Khawaja ended unbeaten on 104 having brought up the milestone in the last over of the day, and

But at the end of the day, he’s a quirky character.” If you can’t see the blog click He’s still a great player and he’s got years in front of him. “He said it a few times, like, ‘Oh, I probably haven’t got as many games as people think left in me’. “ Particularly after having taken the second new ball, to concede the number of runs they did, and the number of boundaries they did,” he told Star Sports. He mentioned it again before this Test match.

Straight away we have a single from the first delivery as Starc over-pitches on middle and is worked away on the leg side. The big quick put it outside off on a full length and Gill stepped out and brought the blade down like a guillotine to send it careering to the boundary. Rohit takes a single from the first and Gill sends a crowd catch back to the second for no run. To the last, Gill steps back and swats it down the ground for three. It’s not working though as Gill and Pujara work three singles and a loft over mid wicket for two to take a total of five from the over. His first ball of the over to Shubman Gill skidded on and made heavy contact with the pad. 28th over: India 94-1 (Gill 46, Pujara 11) Virat Kohli is laughing and licking his lips in the India dugout. 48th over: India 147-1 (Gill 73, Pujara 32) Lyon to Gill and there’s a sharper angle on the first ball as it jags back in. 33rd over: India 113-1 (Gill 59, Pujara 16) Smith’s faith in Starc is being tested but he stays true to his fast man and throws him the cherry again for a ninth over. Starc had a run of four dots going there but then he strays to leg and Gill simply clips it through midwicket for four and a total of six from the over. and there it is as Pujara drives a full ball to the rope… 43rd over: India 143-1 (Gill 72, Pujara 28) Gill clips Green for a run leaving Pujara, the master bat from the Gujarat town of Rajkot, a cover drive from this stadium.

Enough for a few more wickets to fall? It does sound very placid in comparison to the previous 3 tests... Gill clips off his pads for a single. Was he playing a shot? Pujara fends to mid wicket for no run - a good diving stop there. Steve Smith appeals as the ball hits Pujara outside the line on the front pad. There is a slip and leg slip now. Pujara defends a yorker that held its line from wide around the wicket and on to middle stump. England got 400 and 477 in the first innings of last 2 test matches of that tour and India scored 550 and 700 in reply. By Simon Smale Both occasions England collapsed in their second innings and lost by an innings. I worry for us with India still having 9 wickets and us batting on day 4 or 5

India v Australia: fourth Test, day two – live (The Guardian)

Over-by-over report: Play continues at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Join our team of writers for updates.

100th over: Australia 269-4 (Khawaja 113, Green 54) It’s the 100th over. 92nd over: Australia 260-4 (Khawaja 107, Green 51) Khawaja dabs Patel to point and Cameron Green slams one down the ground. And it’s business as usual as Khawaja glides a single to third man giving 23-year-old allrounder Cameron Green the chance to notch one too and bring up his seventh Test half-century. And the waiting game is over for Cameron Green as Ashwin drifts one fuller and faster outside off and Green leans back and carves off a magnificent square cut to the boundary. After singles from the first two deliveries Khawaja opens his stance a little to the third, leans away to a straighter ball and punches it to the on-side boundary. 108th over: Australia 300-4 (Khawaja 133, Green 65) Can the poetry of Harry Styles and the power of watermelon sugar alchemise for India in the form of a wicket? That’s Khawaja’s first boundary of the day – a testament to the patience of the man. That’s the furrow in captain Rohit Sharma’s brow at the moment as one run comes from the over and Australia start the climb to 400. It skates across the baize to the boundary to take Green to 70. That first ball from Jadeja ripped out of the rough outside Khawaja’s off stump and jagged back to bounce high up on the inside edge and fly over leg stump and past the wicketkeeper for a lucky four! The Cameron Green-Usman Khawaja partnership has blossomed to 177 from 290 balls – the biggest of the series so far – and looks unbreakable. Green takes a single and a breather, content to go to lunch with his highest score banked and a first Test ton in sight.
