The Cobra staffer uses a similar philosophy with the rest of his clubs. Suh’s putter features a set of soft polymer grooves on the face to increase launch and a set of metal grooves to promote faster speeds off the face. After more than a decade, Suh is so comfortable with the unique technology that he doesn’t even consider testing other putters. Now that old Nike putter will be in use at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play after Suh snuck in as the 63rd seed. With Nike no longer making equipment, he also bought a third Method putter on eBay a few years ago. An endless supply of putters is available to PGA TOUR players every week.

For more than 25 years, the Hoag Classic has generated tens of millions of dollars to benefit Hoag Hospital and other local charities.

“Hoag is more than just the best hospital in Orange County,” Hope said. “My father was treated with such compassion and kindness, all without even knowing I worked at Hoag,” Hope said. “About that time, my manager at the Hospital came to me and told me there was now scholarship money for non-Nursing students,” she said. “Hoag Hospital saved my life when they accepted me into their family,” Hope said. “Being awarded the scholarship and recognized as one of 13 Kingston Technology – Hoag Classic Scholars for 2022 is a blessing. Her hope is to be selected for the doctorate program in Population Health in 2024. “I don’t see how I could’ve done that without the educational assistance they have made available to me.” “The Hoag Classic has been a major contributor to that.” Interestingly, Hope and one of her two brothers enlisted in the U.S. The day I got that approval stamp was the most amazing thing ever in my life.” “Lucky for us and with God’s grace, we made it and no one died,” she said. Matt Kuchar, at 44 the oldest player in the field, outlasted Viktor Hovland and won his 35th match, one short of the career tournament record held by Tiger Woods. Rickie Fowler took him down on the 17th hole, the first time Rahm has lost in the opening round. “It’s sort of everything, getting used to where to go to eat, getting to know some guys, getting used to the style of golf course. I capitalised on a couple of mistakes, one on 12 from Harris and another one on four. It’s a bit different than what I grew up with in New Zealand and to what we play in Europe at times. It was nice to get a win.”

That change was announced late in 2021 and the ball immediately got rolling on a possible Champions Tour event in the valley. Even the fan in Sheehan got a glint in her eye knowing that Fred Couples would be there. There was a gathering at the course that day to promote the new PGA Tour Champions’ Galleri Classic in late March. That scene alone says a lot about the transition that’s taking place in the Coachella Valley this week. So imagine this: the six-time LPGA Tour major winner and 1996 champion at Mission Hills trailing the great male players of her era, punching their scores into a little computer. — World Golf Hall of Famer Patty Sheehan was hanging around the clubhouse at her home course, Mission Hills Country Club, a couple of weeks ago when a group of reporters stopped by to say hello.

Twelve months ago, there was no PGA Tour Champions event in the Coachella Valley, something that had been true in the desert since the 1990s.

They are used to a tournament that has been here for 51 years, and there are new people here, and just exactly what does that mean for the golf fan who doesn’t know who a Champions Tour player is or what that looks like or how great that they are or have the interaction with the amateurs and the fans and with others.” “Once they get to the event, then they are pumped to come back,” she said. Like the LPGA that played on the Dinah Shore course for the last five decades, DeLancy believes the PGA Tour Champions is an experience that will immediately grab fans’ interest once it is seen in person. It’s reliant on the pro-ams and the parties and entertainment and the hospitably, and that’s fine, too.” The Dinah Shore Tournament Course had been the home of the LPGA in the desert for 51 years, but comparing the Chevron Challenge and the Galleri Classic on the same golf course is something DeLancy didn’t want to happen. “And we have partnered with Coachella Valley cancer beneficiaries to get involved in the community,” DeLancy said. The desert’s lack of a corporate base means that big companies aren’t footing the bill for as many of the $18,000-per-foursome pro-am groups on Wednesday or Thursday. DeLancy admits the schedule has produced a wait-and-see attitude for some potential sponsors, partners and pro-am players. “I am not trying to make us look different or compare us to other events that have been on this course," said DeLancy, whose background includes running a PGA Tour Champions event in Seattle. “Before we have even gotten to this event, we can see the amazing field of 78 players that will be playing, which is the very important piece of the tournament. Going from no event to having an event ready to tee off has proven to be a busy and at times surprising year for the tour and tournament director Michelle DeLancy. Twelve months ago, there was no PGA Tour Champions event in the Coachella Valley, something that had been true in the desert since the 1990s.

"I've talked to a lot of pros and lot of caddies, some of them played late in the afternoon after the rain (Tuesday) and this (Wednesday) on the range," Conlan said. Golfers who do go for the green in two will need to be careful, since the hill sloping away from the back of the green does not have long rough, meaning balls can easily roll into the lake. Other distance differences will come on the par-5s of the course, where the PGA Tour Champions players will be able to hit driver likely farther than most LPGA players. "We will be ready to go for the weekend." So the rough will be lower, perhaps no more than two inches, in part because of the Galleri Classic is a regular tour event and in part because the colder, wetter desert winter has made it tougher to grow thick and long grass. Those changes will be evident from the first tee of the course Friday.

However, it is unlikely the media partner in question is FOX, as the tour has no relationship with the entity in question. FOX founder and media tycoon Rubert Murdoch has a personal relationship with LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman; the two attempted to create a “World Golf Tour'' in the mid-1990s, with Murdoch’s FOX Sports securing the TV rights. LIV Golf claims that because of the interference it had to sign "with a secondary network, with LIV being its first sporting event." In January 2022, LIV Golf hired former FOX Sports President David Hill to help with production, and FOX News had a heavy presence at LIV Golf’s third event held at former President Trump’s Bedminster, N.J., property. The network being referred to is the CW Network, LIV's only U.S. “Time and again, after the live meeting or phone call, the broadcaster did an about face and informed LIV the negotiations (in one case, a signed contract) could not proceed.

LIV Golf argues that the PGA Tour has tried to block it from success. In a court document, the PGA Tour is blamed for LIV Golf's TV partner options.

Pascal used illegal means to dissuade numerous broadcasters in international markets from signing broadcast contracts with LIV and even from reporting about LIV events in their news content.” In arguing they need to depose Pascal sooner rather than later, LIV attorneys depicted him as sabotaging their potential TV deals. The filing mainly details a scheduling disagreement over where and when LIV can depose Thierry Pascal, the London-based senior vice president of international media for the PGA Tour International. LIV claimed due to the interference of Pascal, it was forced to sign with a “secondary network” who had never previously broadcast live sport. “Time and again, after the live meeting or phone call, the broadcaster did an about face and informed LIV the negotiations (in one case, a signed contract) could not proceed,” the filings claim. According to documents filed this week in the antitrust lawsuits between the rival golf tours, LIV had a signed contract with a network in the United States only for it to collapse following the intervention of a key PGA Tour figure. “Based on tour documents and other sources, LIV believes Mr Pascal used illegal means to dissuade numerous broadcasters in international markets from signing broadcast contracts with LIV and even from reporting about LIV events in their news content,” LIV claims in the lawsuit. LIV claims Pascal met with TV executives and potential media partners in person and thus did not leave a paper trail of his interactions. The bitter dispute between the PGA Tour and Saudi-backed LIV Golf has taken another twist with claims of sabotage over TV deals.
