That was the phrase I thought of after Sandhagen’s dominant five-round win over Marlon Vera in the UFC Fight Night main event last weekend.
Michael Bisping thinks Marlon Vera needed to get going a lot sooner against Cory Sandhagen at UFC on ESPN 43.
“I think he was something like 120 strikes to 30 or something like that, and that’s what cost him the fight. You can’t allow someone like that to get that kind of advantage. Bisping credited his good friend Vera for showing a sense of urgency as the rounds went by, but acknowledged that it was too late. “He’s a good friend of mine, but he actually started to fight. But against Sandhagen, “Chito” appeared tentative and wasn’t able to rally with a finish. He’s a very sophisticated fighter, sophisticated striker, did fantastic work, put it on ‘Chito’ right from the beginning.
Cory Sandhagen thinks that MMA would benefit from having a universal commission to regulate things in a uniform manner.

After all, this is a job where you get punched in the face for a living and Perez has done it for quite a while. However, Barber has fought a total of nine times since her debut in November 2018, giving her the most appearances without a Bonus appearing on this card. For the record, Collins never judged a fight in the UFC ever again after turning in that score. I suppose a fighter can leave the middleweight division, but the middleweight division will never leave the fighter. I get that the Brazilian isn’t likely to become a title challenger the way Cote did, but he’s proven to be a fun watch every time out. It took major creativity on the part of Barber to pull it off. Given he’s headlined a couple of other cards of similar repute, it doesn’t make sense for him to shrink in the spotlight. I can’t recall the last time I advocated for a fighter to get a fifth opportunity after they lost their first four fights within the organization, at least not in a single stretch. Most of the fights that did make it to the cage were perfectly acceptable in terms of the aesthetic. Vera had a deer in the headlights look, like the spotlight was too bright for him. Alexander displayed a level of maturity in his performance, staying on the outside and picking apart the rugged veteran. Even in some of his past losses, Vera had been able to maintain the killer instinct in his eyes, knowing he’d eventually put his opponent away, provided he didn’t run out of time.
Michael Bisping would have liked to see his friend and former teammate Marlon "Chito" Vera start on a quicker foot against Cory Sandhagen.

Perhaps most notably known for his quirky and unorthodox striking approach, Sandhagen brilliantly mixed in his takedowns to disrupt Vera early and often. The movement of Sandhagen was ultimately too diverse for Vera, preventing him from being cut off and struck for significant portions of time. Unfortunately for Ecuador’s Vera, his entertaining four-fight winning streak came to a screeching halt thanks to Sandhagen’s aggressively versatile and tricky assault. The UFC bantamweight division continued to steal the spotlight this past Saturday night.

He’s the champion for a reason, and I would love to clean the division. I see wherever the fight goes, Aljo will dominate this fight. Dvalishvili has made his stance clear that he will not fight for the title as long as his friend and teammate, Aljamain Sterling, is champion. It makes sense, and I would love to fight him anytime. I would love a new challenge. “I love the match because he’s great,” Dvalishvili said.
UFC San Antonio's main event clash, Marlon Vera vs. Cory Sandhagen, was the latest victim of the sport's lingering poor judging challenge.
TDLR said they are aware of the issues over scoring in one of the fights at UFC San Antonio. This was Ojeda's first time judging a UFC card, and the main event was his fourth bout in the organization overall. Even though Vera showed some promise in rounds 3 and 5, his effectiveness was limited by Cory Sandhagen's movement. Vera had his moments in rounds 3 and 5, but they were few and far between. The MMA community was left fuming at the split decision scorecards considering the clinical performance that Sandhagen displayed. Cory Sandhagen, was the latest victim of the sport's lingering poor judging challenge.

He’s the champion for a reason, and I would love to clean the division. He’s dangerous, he’s a good fighter, he proved today by beating a tough ‘Chito’ Vera, and I would love to fight him.” “He’s good, he’s very technical, footwork, he has jiu-jitsu and everything,” Dvalishvili continued. It makes sense, and I would love to fight him anytime.” I would love a new challenge. 3, so I love the fight.
Matt Brown sounds off on the judge who somehow scored the UFC San Antonio main event in favor of Marlon "Chito" Vera despite nearly universal agreement that ...
It just speaks to the larger problem whether it’s the judges themselves or whether it is the actual scoring system that is a little bit flawed and confusing. “We’ve seen some pretty bad ones in the past but that scorecard’s got to be one of the top five [worst]. He was one scorecard away, Cory was one scorecard away from having this taken away from him.” Brown is quick to point out that if Ojeda clearly made the wrong call then there’s always a chance that a second official could have done the same, which means Sandhagen loses. As much as Brown has argued for better scoring criteria when it comes to MMA judging, he can’t even blame that as a reason why Ojeda somehow gave Vera three rounds that night. “I’m glad that we’re highlighting this because a lot of people would look over this because the right person won and it’s just kind forgotten about. That came as a result of judge Joel Ojeda, who inexplicably gave the final three rounds and thus the fight to Vera while Sal D’Amato and Chris Lee both overwhelmingly scored the fight in favor of Sandhagen with scores of 50-45 and 49-46. The most perplexing part about the scorecard was Ojeda somehow scoring the third, fourth and fifth rounds for Vera. “There was no possible way you could have scored it [for ‘Chito’ Vera]. Get the f*** out of here with that.” I don’t think he would be dishonest about it. “I’m not trying to make his life hell either but I think he should find a different job though,” Brown said about Ojeda on the latest episode of The Fighter vs.

or more open scoring or whatever but there 100 percent has to be a universal commission.” The 30-year-old also addressed that the commission and promotions may have a problem with this. You have to have a bunch of people that are all on board of the same rules if we’re going to make this international thing.” Sandhagen gave the example of football players in this regard. Cory Sandhagen recently appeared on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. Hence, the aggrieved fighter has finally broken his silence over the issue. The main event between

“It’s going to have to happen before the wedding if I’m going to fight,” Sandhagen said. It would be better than having me be in a training camp for the wedding.” “I don’t know why those two wouldn’t go with O’Malley unless the UFC doesn’t want O’Malley to fight for the belt, which, I think that they do. “I’m not doing this whole ‘let me try to find out the easiest path to the top of the mountain’ thing. That all changed in the aftermath of his win, though, when Sandhagen instead turned his attention to Dvalishvili, who was fresh off a five-round thumping of [Petr Yan](https://www.mmafighting.com/fighter/4437/petr-yan). “I’m not letting other people’s values be my values in martial arts,” Sandhagen explained when addressing the callout on The MMA Hour.
UFC bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling thinks friend and teammate Merab Dvalishvili's pace and cardio would be too much for Cory Sandhagen.
(If) you mix it up better, you’re usually going to win the fight – and whoever has the better gas tank, which we all know ‘The Machine’ is ‘The Machine” for a reason. “But the moment that he let ‘Chito’ press forward and some of the Rounds 3, 4 and mostly 5, he was able to get off some of those kicks a little bit more and find more range and find a home for those strikes a little bit more often. And if you don’t get the takedowns, come up with strikes off the break and just mix it up. [YouTube channel.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3rO7jrgg3k) “The difference is keeping him down. “The Machine” broke the record for most takedown attempts in that fight and Sterling expects him to overwhelm Sandhagen too. But I think seeing how Sandhagen slowed down in Rounds 3, 4 and even 5, I can see how Merab can break him.
UFC bantamweight champ Aljamain Sterling thinks friend and teammate Merab Dvalishvili's pace and cardio would be too much for Cory Sandhagen.
Sherdog analyst Blaine Henry examines the UFC on ESPN 43 main event, which saw a top bantamweight contender strengthen his case for a title shot.
On the feet, Sandhagen threw feints for the sake of feinting and had Vera on the back foot, unable able to plant like he prefers. The second pre-fight path we identified for Vera to slow Sandhagen down was the calf kick. (3) The turn was successful, as Sandhagen had Vera down and against the fence, with no ability to go backwards. A lot of what Sandhagen did to befuddle Vera involved the number of feints he used to throw him off. Once he got Sandhagen to the warning track, however, the Colorado native skirted out the side to where Vera could not work the body or the clinch. No look at Sandhagen would be complete without a look at the fantastically complicated striking he brings to the table. He intentionally turned Vera around in his guard, pointed him to the fence, bundled him up and gave him less room to work. As mentioned, (1) Sandhagen pressed Vera to the fence. To counter this, Sandhagen knew Vera was pulling up and raising his center of gravity. To set this tone from the midpoint of the fight, Sandhagen came forward with hand feints first, knowing Vera would not buy his shooting just yet. Sandhagen showed a different side of himself, as he adopted a wrestling-heavy approach, neutralized most of the big shots from Vera and controlled the fight. The rather unexpected threat of the takedown put Vera on his heels from the first shot.
As impressed as Sean O'Malley was by Cory Sandhagen, he also expected more from bantamweight Marlon Vera at UFC on ESPN 43 in San Antonio.
