An injury to first-five Brett Cameron has soured a bizarre win over the Force in Palmerston North, where the visitors staged an unlikely comeback.

Down by 19 points at halftime, the Force stormed back into the game late in the second half, scoring three tries in the final 10 minutes to deny the Hurricanes a bonus point. Although they have reclaimed second spot, all five of the Hurricanes wins have come against the bottom five teams, and this was their least convincing yet. He also pulled off a crucial turnover with the Force hot on the attack, 22 metres out from the tryline. Local lad Iose stood up in the absence of first-choice No. Iose’s second try, seven minutes, before halftime, was crucial in the wash-up. Against the wind, the Force opted against kicking immediately from a scrum inside their own 5-metre line.

Carolina beat New York as teams jockey for Metro Division ahead of Stanley Cup Playoffs. Canes outshot Islanders, Frederik Andersen in net.

The Islanders had two shots miss the net and another blocked by defenseman Jaccob Slavin in the last 10 seconds of regulation. There was a lot of work for the Canes to do after Martinook’s goal at 2:31 of the third. But Seth Jarvis stepped in and made some plays and Andersen took it from there with a timely save. That came after the Isles’ Jean-Gabriel Pageau sniped a goal from the left circle late in the first. He had gone 24 games without a goal, but his 12th of the season was his second game-winner of the season. Carolina, which has 107 points, has six games remaining in the regular season and a game in hand on New Jersey.

Game Preview: NY Islanders vs Carolina Hurricanes (Eyes on Isles)

In the midst of a tough weekend, the NY Islanders are looking to turn things around against the Carolina Hurricanes following a tough 5-0 loss on Saturday.

For the Hurricanes, Sebastian Aho is continuing to show why he is one of the league's best as of late. Palmieri has three goals throughout the past five games, two of which came against the New Jersey Devils, and one against the Colombus Blue Jackets. The second game came in early December as the Islanders would be shut out by the Hurricanes, 3-0. Simon Holmstrom and Brock Nelson would get the Islanders on the board and tied at 2 before the end of the first period. Off of goals by Brady Skjei, Paul Statsny, and a powerplay goal by Sebastian Aho, the Hurricanes' offense remained hot and continued to show why they are indeed one of the best teams in the league. The Islanders hold a three-point lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins as it comes down to the wire.
